Sharesies is an investment platform that lets New Zealanders and Australians buy fractional shares in companies listed on the NZX, ASX and US markets. Founded in Wellington in 2017 by Sonya Williams, Brooke Roberts, Leighton Roberts, Ben Crotty, Richard Clark and Martyn Smith, the platform was built to remove the barriers that kept most people out of investing.
By late 2024 Sharesies had more than 700,000 users and was managing over $5 billion in invested funds across New Zealand and Australia.
Why Noteworthy
Sharesies changed what investing looks like in New Zealand. Before it launched, buying shares required a broker and a meaningful minimum. Sharesies proved there was a huge, underserved audience willing to invest small amounts regularly, and in doing so shifted the culture around money for a generation of young New Zealanders.
