Last updated 17 June 2026

Janine Grainger is a New Zealand entrepreneur and the co-founder and chief executive of Easy Crypto, the country’s largest cryptocurrency trading platform.

Grainger studied economics and finance at the University of Auckland and built a corporate career in senior operational and people-leadership roles at Air New Zealand, Westpac and PwC. In 2017, she and her brother Alan co-founded Easy Crypto with a simple premise: buying and selling cryptocurrency should be as straightforward as online banking, not a technical ordeal that excluded most people.

The platform has grown to more than 250,000 users and processed over billion in transactions across New Zealand, Australia and South Africa. Easy Crypto was recognised by Callaghan Innovation and named to the University of Auckland’s 40 Under 40 alumni programme.

Beyond the business, Grainger has become a leading voice on cryptocurrency regulation in New Zealand, advocating on behalf of the industry in Parliament and representing the country at the G20 virtual asset summit. She serves as a council member of FinTechNZ, helping shape the regulatory environment for digital assets.

Grainger’s profile is noteworthy because she brought corporate credibility and regulatory seriousness to an industry often associated with speculation, building New Zealand’s largest crypto platform while actively working to give the sector the institutional trust it needed to grow.
